Eric Metaxas, Bonhoeffer’s Birthday and A Lesson in Courage.

VeggieTales Esther A Lesson In CourageA few days ago was Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Birthday (Feb 4) Last year Eric Metaxas, who wrote a great book on Bonhoeffer had a great speech at the Nat’l Prayer Breakfast in Washington.

Although I am sure Eric Metaxas is known to many people for many creative works, but personally I was first introduced to Eric Metaxas several years ago while I was watching with my children a Veggie Tales video based on the Bible story of Esther. He did a very good job but what was most memorable to me was that instead of hearing the usual British accent, or James Earl Jones type of voice to make narration sound very intelligent I heard Eric Metaxas’ voice which sort of reminded me (and I may be dating myself now) of a young Woody Allen. The full title of this Veggie Tales video is “VeggieTales: Esther, the Girl Who Became Queen” and then markedly subtitled “A Lesson In Courage.”

I think Eric took that lesson of courage definitely to heart because at that Prayer Breakfast during his sometimes humorous but poignant speech at the podium, sharing the dais with President Obama, the First Lady and with other notable people like Nancy Pelosi, Metaxas courageously spoke about standing for, and defending the pre-born against abortion.
